On this project Jaques Int Ltd worked for and with Hornsey Steel Panels and Sections Ltd (HSPAS) – a leading British manufacturer of steel panels and sections – to deliver their purpose built headquarters in Bucknell, Shropshire.

Representing a multi-million pound investment in the building and equipment, the vision was to create a centre of excellence utilising the latest steel panel and section technology to be one of the biggest one stop shops in the UK for steel roofing and cladding.

Manufactured and supplied by HSPAS, Jaques Int Ltd installed 100mm built-up cladding and Kingspan quadcore 80mm composite tramline panels on the walls, and 240mm built-up cladding on the roof.  32/1000 roof profile with a Plastisol external coating in Merlin Grey (BS 18B25) and internal white polyester.

Structural steel work was fabricated to BS EN 1090-2 – Execution Class II, and painted to industry standard BS EN 1090-2:2008+A1:2011 in Light Grey.  Intumescent paint was then applied on site by a third party.

Working in close proximity to a live railway line, a Basic Asset Protection Agreement (BAPA) with Network Rail and £50 million of Public Liability insurance were required.  Network Rail provided a supervisor to oversee the crane lifting operations.

Crane beams (fabricated to Execution Class 3) were installed to take two 10 tonne Gantry cranes.

A mix of Anthracite grey aluminium and uPVC framed glazing was installed externally, with expansive curtain wall glazing in Anthracite completing the entrance lobby internally.

Switchable Smart Glass was supplied and installed in the meeting room. Using the latest polymer dispersed liquid crystal technology, turning glass from frosted to clear using a simple ON-OFF system, switching instantly at the press of a button.

Six 6.000m high x 5.810m wide insulated roller shutter doors in Solent Blue were installed in the south and east elevations of the building, along with AOV smoke vents in the roof above the entrance lobby.

38mm T&G P5-Chipboard floors were installed to create the second and third floor offices, along with precast Type ‘A’ concrete stairs (in accordance with BS8110) and a galvanized steel staircase for access.

Plastisol coated steel colour-coded trimline gutter system in Merlin Grey, and Plastisol coated flashings complete the exterior of the building.

Reflecting on the project, Samuel Hornsey said: “Jaques have been one of the easiest businesses to work with and the role they’ve played throughout the project has been crucial.”
